Staying Safe while on a Speed Boat

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 6:42 pm

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Speed Boats is certainly no exception.

Speed boats are sports car on water. They are designed to go fast. But just like driving a fast car on the road, you have to maintain a good level of safety for you and the passengers on board.

1. Before setting out to the open water, check the boat and be sure that it is proper working order. Fix any mechanical problem that needs to be fixed. Check and test if the radio is working. This way, if something happens to you while in the middle of the sea, you can radio the Coast Guard for help. Fuel up. The last thing you want is to hand your fate on the mercy of the water current.

2. Waves and alcohol don’t mix. Drinking and boating is as dangerous as drinking and driving. Alcohol impairs your vision, judgment and proper senses. It reduces your time to react on certain emergencies. And if you are caught driving intoxicated, you will get a fine. If you own the boat, set a rule that no alcohol gets on board the boat and no one gets on the boat intoxicated.

3. It is quite unfortunate the many people don’t know how to swim. But this should not be the reason to prevent a friend or a relative from boarding the boat. Make sure that the persons who do not know how to swim wear a lifejacket once they get onboard.

4. Speaking of lifejacket, do not leave the port without ensuring that the number of your lifejacket is equal or more than the number of persons onboard. It is also a good practice to outfit each person on board with lifejacket whether they can swim or not. Make sure that your lifejackets are not outdated and not dry-rotted.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

5. Never leave without a fire extinguisher. Not because you are surrounded with water, it doesn’t mean that your boat with not catch fire. This is quite ironic but the fact is, fire can spread pretty quickly on your boat.

6. Take a boating safety course. In most areas, this is offered for free and can be finished within a day or two. It is a good idea to enroll yourself together with your entire family. Training programs are usually free and available in the city. But if you can’t find one, try looking online.

7. Yes, speed boats are designed to go fast but it doesn’t mean that you go crazy on speed and go full throttle all the time. Keep your sensibility in tact and always keep your speed in check. Make sure that you are running on a speed where you can still make split second decision. Slow down when you are passing through other boats. Take note that other boaters may not be able to see you in blinding sun and dark night. Keep within the water speed limit. All the rules in waterway should be followed. A good driver knows how fast is too fast and knows how the need to slow down.

8. Get a speed boat insurance. Assess your needs and get the right policy and coverage.

9. Keep your boat properly maintained. Routinely check for cracks, leaks and damages. Check the engine and make sure that it is in good running condition. Just like your car, your boat should have its own maintenance record.

Of course, it’s impossible to put everything about Speed Boats into just one article. But you can’t deny that you’ve just added to your understanding about Speed Boats, and that’s time well spent.

Boat Show: To Buy or Not to Buy?

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 11:46 am

The following article lists some simple, informative tips that will help you have a better experience with Speed Boats.

Many bargain hunters flock to boat shows for one reason: to get the best deal. Experts also agree that the best place to buy speed boat, or any type of boat for that matter, is at boat shows.

We can categorize boat shows into two: on-season boat show and off-season boat show. Each varies widely and may play a big factor on deciding to buy or not.

On-season boat shows are those held during summer, when the demand for new boats is high. Here you can see a range of showcase boats, state of the art boat technology and latest designs.

Off-season boat shows are those held during winter or the periods from January to March. This is commonly referred to as winter boat show because on colder weather states, the show is held during winter months. Since there is no winter in the Gulf Coast, California and the beaches of Florida, boat shows that happen during these months are called off-season boat shows. Most boats here are the previous year’s models. Shows are held to sell off existing models to give way to new models on the coming boat season.

The information about Speed Boats presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Speed Boats or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

The deals from these shows vary as well. At on-season shows, prices may be a little higher and dealers are less likely to bring down their prices. It can be attributed to the demand. Another reason is that dealers pay a premium price to place their boats on the show, not to mention the transportation cost of moving their displays from their dealership to the show area and back. Dealers have to recoup these expenses by passing them to their costumers. Off-season shows are no different. But since dealers aim to sell their existing models before the new boats arrive, they are more likely to bring down their prices or add cash discount and freebies.

Thus, it is important that when you buy a boat, you know when the right time to buy. If you are planning to buy the latest model, then shows during summer may help you get what you are looking for. If you are looking for bargain, then winter or off-season boat shows are the places to go.

One important thing to consider is that not because you go to an off-season boat show, it doesn’t already mean that you will get the best deal. Many boats may not be as affordable as you think they are. So, to give you better chances of landing on a better, if not the best deal, use boat shows to your advantage. Learn as much information as you can, build relationship with dealers and visit their dealerships to make a deal. Make sure that you do your research first so that when you are on the site, you are properly armed with the right information. Go do different boat shows and learn as much information as you can.

Speed boat is a real financial investment so unless you can afford to make a mistake and buy another unit if you are not satisfied with you previous purchase, you have to make sure that you get it right the first time. As a rule of thumb, buy only if you have done thorough research, have identified what you want and have a financial standing to either pay cash or apply for loans.

Getting Your Speed Boat Ready for the Hurricane Season

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 11:58 am

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Speed Boats? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Speed Boats.

It is mid-May. Less than a month to go before the hurricane season begins. Is your speed boat ready to weather the storm?

Before the hurricane season begins, buy items that will help you prep your speed boat efficiently like duct tapes, ropes, trash bags and rug.

Prepare your trailer. Check the tires and tire pressure and make sure that it is working and rolling properly. In case your boat needs to be removed from the water, you don’t have to scramble and fix your trailer when the wind begins to strengthen.

Create a checklist of things to do in case you need to secure your boat or take if out of the water. Also, list down the items that must be removed from the boat in the event of a hurricane.

When a hurricane warning is issued, usually 36 to 48 hours before landfall, the best thing to do is to remove your boat from the water. Secure your boat to the trailer and move it to your garage or as far inland as possible away from the direction of the hurricane.

When moving is not possible, remove the boat from the water, put it on top of the trailer and anchor it good into the ground. A good way to secure your trailer into the ground is using steel rebar. Some may suggest tying your trailer to the tree but with hurricane winds that can topple even the mightiest tree down, it might not be a good idea. Anchor the boat away from power lines, trees and old structures that might fall on it. Place blocks between the axle and frame of the trailer wheels and remove the air from its tires.

It’s really a good idea to probe a little deeper into the subject of Speed Boats. What you learn may give you the confidence you need to venture into new areas.

Use heavy strap to secure the boat to the trailer. It is also to add weight to the boat. Place fresh water on the areas possible. Cover your boat using thick canvas to prevent damages from flying branches and other debris that may hit your boat.

If removing the boat from water is not your option, secure your boat by tying it high on pilings to give way for the rising water. Run extra line and use double tie on every knot. Failure to do this can severely damage your boat especially if the water level rises more than your rope’s allowable length. Face the bow of your boat on the direction where the wind is coming from so that it can better ride the waves. Cut boat the fuel lines and the batteries to avoid oil spill. Place some rubber moldings around the boat to prevent scratches, dents, and holes.

Photograph the interior and exterior of your boat before the hurricane. Remove everything from loose objects to cushions and fabrics. Refer to the list you have created prior to start of the hurricane season.

Openings must be secured to prevent wind-driven rain from sipping through. Instrument panel must be covered as well with plastic and duct tape.

After the hurricane, assess the damage of your boat. Do not move anything. Take some pictures first and contact your insurance company to file a claim.

Leaking hull must be weathered immediately. Clean your boat right away to prevent rotting and avoid mold and mildew build up. In case your boat sank, do not contact a salvage company without the approval of your insurance claim.

Knowing enough about Speed Boats to make solid, informed choices cuts down on the fear factor. If you apply what you’ve just learned about Speed Boats, you should have nothing to worry about.

Speed Boats: Getting the Best Deal

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 2:33 pm

The only way to keep up with the latest about Speed Boats is to constantly stay on the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about Speed Boats, it won’t take long for you to become an influential authority.

Landing on the best speed boat deal relies on 2 factors: the location and the time of buying.

There are two places where you can buy speed boats: boat show and dealer. Conventional wisdom tells us that best deals and rock-bottom prices are available on boat shows since dealers are competing against each other to get your attention and make a sale. While there is some true to it, this wisdom sometimes does not hold water. In some cases, the price of speed boats is slightly higher on boat shows since dealers have to pay thousands of dollars to rent a space to show their boats.

This does not include cost of hauling their boats to and from the show area. You may not even see any difference on the sticker price but the added cost is reflected on other charges. The reason is that, dealers have to recoup the show cost by passing it to the costumers. Take note though that this is not always the case as most dealers have funding for this activity. It is possible therefore that you can get the same price on boat shows as you will get on dealerships.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Speed Boats. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

Meanwhile, it is also possible to get a much lower price especially on the last day of the boat show. This is because dealers are anxious to make a sale so they more than willing to slash on prices. Also, this will also be the best time to make a sale since many bargain hunters choose to buy on the last day of the show.

Conversely, experts believe that best prices are found on dealerships. Again, truth on this claim doesn’t always hold water. The idea is that, you are likely to buy a boat if you visit a boat dealership so dealers (while they are fully concerned on closing a sale before you walk out their doors) are more reluctant to give you further price cuts aside from the standard discounts and add-ons they offer, unless you ask. But since the dealers do not have to pay extra to introduce their boats to you, the price of the boat after taxes and other charges can be lower than what you can get on boat shows.

It is important therefore to do your research and compare different prices on different location. A good tip, most experts suggest, is to go to boat shows, check the prices, learn everything you need to know and visit the dealership later. This way, you can avoid the recoup prices (if there is any) and can ask for special discounts that the dealers offer at the show.

Right timing is equally important when buying speed boat. The best time to buy is always during the off-season, that is, during winter from January to March. However this is only applicable to those who live in colder climates. For those who live on areas with no winter like California, Florida and the Gulf Coast, there is no off-season but dealers are always trying to sell their last year’s model at a cheaper price before the peak season (summer) begins.

The key to getting the best deal is to use these factors to your advantage. For example, buy a speed boat at winder boat show or just before the latest boats arrive and try to squeeze from your dealer every amount they can afford to lose.

The day will come when you can use something you read about here to have a beneficial impact. Then you’ll be glad you took the time to learn more about Speed Boats.

Guide to Speed Boat Financing

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 10:24 am

Owning a speed boat was once limited to those who can pay cash. And since this kind of watercraft can be very expensive and very few lending companies offer boat financing terms, only few can really afford it. But as lenders see that most buyers are good clients for loans, they added boat loans with their existing real estate and auto loans. Some even specialize on boat loans alone, dedicating their staff and funding for this purpose. Finding a financing service becomes easy.

Check with your bank first if they offer boat loans. If they do, inquire about the rates and the loan term. If they don’t, call other banks or check the websites of different local, regional and national banks. Banks are always good lenders as they have stable funding. Loan approval is also fast as long as you have a good credit standing.

You can also check financial services companies which are often connected to local, regional and national lenders. Their advertisements can be found on different magazines, publications and websites dedicated to boating.

If you are a member of a union, check if it offers boat loans. Credit unions offer the most attractive rates among the three. Members can easily get approved so contact them and ask for a competitive loan.

Different lenders use unique terms for the types of loans they offer but generally, they are just similar to real estate loans.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Speed Boats. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

Fixed term simple interest loan or fixed rate loan is the simplest, most common and generally considered as most favorable loan as it maintains the same monthly payment throughout the entire loan term. The good thing about this is that, you can budget your finances and allocate a precise amount of money for the loan because you know how much you will pay month in and month out.

Variable rate loan bases your monthly payment on different interest rate indexes. Variable rate loan is often offered as a fixed rate loan (with low introductory rate) for a definite period of time before it bases the rate in different variables. While you cannot predict your monthly payment, you can benefit from this kind of loan if the rates suddenly become lower in the future. But since it is more complicated, you have to understand first how this works in order to assess if it really is for you. Ask your lender everything about variable rate loan before taking it.

Balloon payment loan lets the borrowers to pay the balance of the loan at a specific time. It is sometimes a preferred type of loan to borrowers who know that they will own the boat for a certain period of time.

Regardless of which lender you choose, you are guaranteed to pay low down payment ? as low as 10% to 20% of the total amount of the boat (the rate of down payment is based on the age, price and type of the boat). Some lenders even have zero-down offerings on new boats. Since the loan goes for several years, payment is easier. And if you are offered with longer financing terms, monthly payments are further reduced.

Finally, by applying for financing, you can get larger, newer, more expensive, more powerful and better boat than what you have wished for.

Those who only know one or two facts about Speed Boats can be confused by misleading information. The best way to help those who are misled is to gently correct them with the truths you’re learning here.

Buying a Speed Boat

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 7:40 pm

Have you ever wondered if what you know about Speed Boats is accurate? Consider the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on Speed Boats.

Speed boats are generally classified according to size, the accommodations, designs and the materials from which they are made. There are a variety of boats out there for the choosing. It is often that one dealer alone could have up to 40 models of speed boats for different types of purposes.

Typically, speed boats are small motorized boats that are designed for speed and agility. This is why a speed boat original function is for pulling water skiers, races and other water competitions. Because of its speed and quickness, it became ideal for use in patrolling beach lanes and is even proving its value as attack military vessels.

While the term speed boat often sparks the mind with the small agile and sleek looking crafts, there are different types of speed boats. An inflatable boat with a fast and strong motor attached to it is termed also as a speed boat though its main use is reconnaissance, beach landings and patrolling.

Power plants
Speed boats are equipped with power plants that are classified according to how the motor is installed. If the motor is removable, it is called an outboard motor but if the engine is installed in the boat it is called a power plant.

? Inboard/outboard are hybrid power plants. This power plant has its gear reduction and propeller outside the speedboat while the main engine is installed within the boat.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Speed Boats. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

? Outboard motors are usually used in smaller crafts where the internal combustion engine, transmission and propeller are installed at the rear of the boat.

? Inboard engines have everything inside the boat except for the propeller and the shaft that connects it to the engine. Typically there are two types of purely inboard motors, the direct drive and the v-drive. The v-drive engine is mounted at the back of the boat where the shaft runs towards the boats front making a V shape at the rear. The direct drive power plant is mounted in the middle of the boat with the propeller sticking towards the back of the boat for the propeller.

As speed boats are basically built for recreational use, most speed boats are made of fiberglass bottoms. While the original concept of speed boating was for sports and fun, the choices of speed boats gradually increased in variety and it is now common to find 40 different models to choose from in a many speed boat dealers. While many are still in the smaller sized category from 15 feet to thirty feet, specialized fishing boats and the luxury speed boats are also in popular demand.

Depending really on how the owner of a speed boat envisions its use, these boats could be made according to a buyers’ specification and could offer him a lot of configurations. Luxury speed boats for example are well made and well spec-ed with all the appointments that an owner would like to have. Some speed boats are designed for sport and multi purpose fishing that could be sailed both on saltwater and fresh water with anglers on board, bedroom compartments, plumbing, a galley and are designed to stay in the water for days.

Owning a speed boat is very personal to most buyers that the design, color themes, graphics etc. could be configured to fit the owners requirements.

You can’t predict when knowing something extra about Speed Boats will come in handy. If you learned anything new about Speed Boats in this article, you should file the article where you can find it again.

How to Become a Better Speed Boat Driver

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 7:00 am

When you think about Speed Boats, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Speed Boats are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.

Generosity is contagious. This is a saying that sometimes loses its meaning on everyday encounter with different people but somehow finds its essence on waters. If you have done some hours boating out in the sea, you know what I mean. If you are new to boating, you will be surprised how boaters treat other boaters as compared to drivers on freeway or even around your neighborhood.

Boaters are more polite, giving, courteous and even helpful to other boaters. Proper etiquette is always practiced. And even if many boaters did not take any boating safety course, they are aware of the things to do and the ways to act on every situation.

Common sense ? the unwritten rule on boating and a must have if you want to survive on waters. Should there be a question of right-of-way, common sense will always tell you to give it to the other guy regardless of who is privileged and who is burdened. In boating, everyone seems to know this and for some good reasons, everyone seems to consciously employ common sense and give way to others.

I can relate this to a story I have heard not so long ago. Two guys were casually boating holding their way at 4 miles per hour. A large cruiser was coming behind them. Logically, the large cruiser, since it was the burdened, had to yield while the casual boaters can hold their line because they were privileged. However, common sense prevailed to the privileged ones, realizing that they can get into trouble and yielded for the large boat.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Speed Boats. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

This is not an isolated incident. Most boaters are more inclined on using their common sense than enforcing the principle of who is the privileged and who is the burdened. And this is something you always want to bring when going out on the waters. This is not the rule but it is always advisable to give way and let the other guys pass, regardless of who has the right-of-way.

Every time I set to the waters, I always observe this type of behavior is a collective manner. Everyone seems to give way to others ? not because they know the rules but more because they tend to treat boaters as neighbors on the same water. Moreover, there is always that help-your neighbor policy that rules everyone. Actually, this is a legal rule but boaters who are unaware that this is a rule tend to apply it every time or at least when they are on the waters.

This makes sense because if you require assistance, you need someone to stop and render you some help. But boaters do this not because they treat others as a means (helping others just because they expect others to help them) but as an ends (simply helping because it is the right thing to do).

To be honest, seeing boaters helping another boater to tow his boat to the shore or fix a boat, sometimes for several hours, can drive me crazy in a good way. If I anchored several hundred yards away from the main pack, it will only be just a matter of time when someone will approach me to ask if everything is okay or yell from the distance “Out of gas?” or “Need some help?”

General rules are good but they are more useful when legal disputes are needed. On waters, always play defensive to avoid collisions, create harmony with other boaters, and always be ready to give others help.

Is there really any information about Speed Boats that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

How to Maintain a Speed Boat

Category: Speed BoatsAnders Eriksson @ 8:10 pm

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Speed Boats is certainly no exception.

Traveling on water has been made more secure because of the advancement in transportation and their series of integrated equipment. Likewise, the modern technology has endowed more features to the boat as a watercraft. Apart from containing seats and cabins for the passengers, the speed has also been improved. This holds true for the speed boat. Sure enough, you do know the importance of fuel to ensure that the boat will run smoothly. The same knowledge must be acquired regarding the importance of its maintenance.

The Essence of Boat Maintenance

With the proper maintenance of your boat, you are assured of a premium level running condition. If you do the opposite, then you have a better chance of facing the ordeal concerning breakdowns. You must take note that the regular care for your investment will give you lower costs for the repairs. Yet if you are fond of ignoring even the most minimal problems then better prepare your finances for a more serious expense. You can rarely buy this type of investment for a song so it is only right that you seriously ponder on the right measures in line with its maintenance. You have no reason to worry since a manual often comes along with the purchase of a yacht.

One more thing, the maintenance tasks involved in every boat varies. This is for the prime reason that boats are different. They have varying makeup, different components, and equipment. Thus, you need to employ a diverse technique to ensure that your boat remains in a top shape.

Doing the Yearly Maintenance

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Speed Boats is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Speed Boats.

Just like any other means of transportation such as bus, cars, motorbike, and the likes, boats also need to be checked annually. The yearly checkup includes the changing of the oil, the lower end fluid, the filters, and the drive oil as well. You see, this kind of vessel spends much time in the seawater. The latter is obviously filled with salt content which may affect the bottom portion and paint of the vessel. The continual maintenance therefore enhances the pristine look of the boat and removes the debris that forms underneath.

Winterizing the Engine

Experts advice the boat owners and users that the perfect time to conduct the yearly maintenance is when it is getting winterized. Winterizing the boat is very significant most especially when it is designated to be exposed to any damp or cold weather. Here are the steps that you should follow in doing this.

Firstly, you must flush the engine using water. As soon as it gets drained, it can already be washed using the soapy water. Rinse it afterwards. Next, you should drain the fuel from those of the hoses and carburetor. This must be done so that there will be no evaporated fuel to form.

Then, when you are done with the cleaning and drying of the engine, it is time for you to grease the pistons and cylinder walls. Afterwards, put the water resistant oil into all of the moving parts. For the finishing touches, you should polish the outer portion of the engine using a fine quality wax.

Take note that the speed boat maintenance measures are relevant in keeping your vessel safe and functional at all times. During a change in the season, you should carefully watch out for the necessary steps to take.

So now you know a little bit about Speed Boats. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.
